Ros Ridley
I have always had an interest in art although I am almost entirely self-taught. After retiring from a career in medical research, I have been able to devote more time to painting and drawing. I paint mainly in watercolours but occasionally I will work in oils or acrylics and I like to draw using various media, especially charcoal.
As a research scientist, I was interested in the brain mechanisms involved in seeing and this stimulated my interest in analysing and understanding perception. When painting and drawing, we all select and enhance what we can see and, hopefully, we will convey this to the viewer so that they can also ‘see’ in an enhanced way.
My preferred subject matter covers much of the natural world including landscape, birds and animals, but I also enjoy painting architecture and street scenes.
