Gaynor Fryers

I am an oil painter with a background in biological sciences and a lifelong interest in the colours and shapes of the natural world.  After many years in a non-art career I now paint regularly, drawing inspiration from both the natural world of plants and animals and everyday life.  I enjoy playing with the contrast between realism and abstraction – often placing a detailed subject within an abstracted or patterned background – merging scientific observation with creative expression.  Sometimes I simplify the shapes that I see to help focus on the essence of the subject. I hope that my paintings invite viewers to consider the underlying patterns that shape our world. These are inspired by the beauty of the natural forms and the wonderful colours that we see all around us every day.
