Neil Shrubb

I studied Graphic Fine Art at the Kent Institute of Art, focusing on drawing and photography. Since foundation though, my work has always been an exploration of our built environment, and our relationship to it.

I am especially attracted to brutalist buildings, their blank, poured concrete facades, and how this material forms our infrastructure, as well as the transitional spaces that we simply pass through.

My mixed media work is the result of building layers of partially removed drawings, paint and varnish, until I achieve the correct tone and texture, which can be a lengthy process, especially when describing aged concrete.
