Elizabeth Jane Taylor
Elizabeth Jane Taylor is a printer and mixed media artist living and working in Cambridge, UK. She has enjoyed evening art classes and studied locally as a mature student for A level Art, City & Guilds Printing and City & Guilds Life Drawing. Printing has been her main focus for more than 20 years, her work is often based on observations of shape, colour, form and texture found in nature.
Elizabeth’s printing methods focus on Screen printing, Collagraph, Lino, Drypoint and Mono printing. Her works have mainly developed from explorations on subject matter that have related to her personally, as a method to recreate memories and links to still life or locations. Her working career as seed analyst involved seed identification and the physical separation of seed samples where the observation of shape, colour, form and texture are the major factors in differentiation between species. Elizabeth also enjoys making work in mixed media using her own hand coloured papers.
“My art work frequently develops from direct observations and colour studies from nature or from shapes and colours in the studio environment. Although some of my works have a botanical basis these may be reinterpreted to reflect my memories and feelings about location and subject matter.
I particularly like the preparation of hand cut paper stencils for screen printing and the physical cutting of the Lino printing plates. Further developments in the studio exploring media and subject matter are important in the development of finished works.”
