Frances Campbell
My paintings celebrate nature in all her glory. I aim to capture the freshness of a sea breeze or the softness of a woodland floor whilst exploring the balance between realism and abstraction.
I start with lots of quick sketches trying to record the essence of a place and to narrow down the parts that really interest me. Back in the studio these are developed into paintings with acrylics, collage and a mix of painting and drawing techniques. Colours are built up, blended and then often scraped away, often over weeks or months to create rich textures and colours.
I completed a degree in Fine Art at Falmouth School of Art in the late 1980s and then returned to my home city of Cambridge participating in exhibitions both locally and nationally. After a break of some years I re-discovered the excitement that creating art can bring and the joy of an uninterrupted day in my garden studio.
I exhibit with Byard Art in Cambridge and the Cambridge Drawing Society. I welcome visitors during Open Studios and also at other times by appointment.
