Based in Cambridge, I have a History of Art degree, and a Diploma in Portrait Painting from Heatherley’s School of Fine Art. I am a member of The Lots Road Group of Portrait Painters which exhibits annually in London and have been commissioned by several Oxford and Cambridge institutions.
I have painted for most of my life and enjoy still-life and landscape painting; but I have particularly focussed over the past ten years on my passion for painting people. I am fascinated not only by capturing likeness and character, but also in distilling the interaction between me and my subject, so I work directly from life wherever possible (although I do work from photographs if necessary). I am also particularly interested in keeping the picture surface interesting and vibrant; preferring to work with oil or pastel and enjoying painting both quick oil sketches and more complex large-scale portraits. I am happy to accept commissions both locally and further afield, and to travel (within reason) to do so.
