Sue Walker

I am inspired by the landscapes of East Anglia and Mediterranean visits. My choice of subject matter is often decided by my emotional  response to the mood and colours of the scene. It is usually the colours that attract my attention and excite me when I am out sketching in the landscape. Back in my studio near Cambridge and away from the distractions of the open air, I try to capture something of the original experience. In these pictures I aim to convey a sense of the mood and atmosphere of the location.

My subjects are mostly landscapes or seascapes and I do love a sunrise or sunset especially over the Mediterranean. The meeting of land, sea and sky has a mystical quality for me. The changing light and the ebb and flow of water mean that the views are constantly altering and evolving. The majority of my work is in acrylic on block canvas or board and I often prepare the support with a layer of collaged tissue for added texture.

I was elected a member of the Cambridge Drawing Society in 2015 and have held several solo exhibitions as well as taking part in many group shows locally. My work is in public and private collections in the UK, and in private collections in the Australia, USA, France and Germany.

In 2022 I won the Mayor’s Award in the Cambridge Invitational Art Contest run by Galeria Moderna.
